Are you thinking of replacing the Sigma with one of the Nikon's? If you are, I'd definitely take the F1.8G over the F1.8D, unless it is a lens you don't use very often.Robert Disneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09914530059489435698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1510342312913842839.post-8538683121553502682013-05-30T12:02:33.615-07:002013-05-30T12:02:33.615-07:00Hi Rob,

If you like and use both of them, there is no reason to sell one.

As to the 50mm F1.4 stopped down to F1.8, yes it will provide the same depth of field at F1.8 as a 50mm F1.8 would. There might be some different characteristics, since most 50mm F1.8 lenses have fewer aperture blades. In basic terms that means that the bokeh (out of focus areas of the frame) from 50mm F1.4 might look smoother at F1.8 than a 50mm F1.8 lens. Wide aperture lenses are designed to allow you to achieve faster shutter speeds for shooting action in low light, not to make up for vibration/camera shake.Robert Disneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09914530059489435698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1510342312913842839.post-78068668304042453552012-04-22T14:08:33.099-07:002012-04-22T14:08:33.099-07:00I bought the 50G recently and have only used it a ...I bought the 50G recently and have only used it a few times indoors, on my D5100. Maybe my hands shake at 1/30th of a second (I'm 63+)but I have yet to get a really sharp image, even at ISO 1600, f 3.5, Let me try it in better light at a higher shutter speed before I come to any conclusion. Sometimes I feel I ought to have bought the Tamron 17-50mm f 2.8 with VC (Vibration Control), maybe my fantastic 18-105mm nikkor zoom is all I need, I get amazing pictures at the same settings, same conditions indoors ! In which case, Indian rupees 12,500 have gone down the drain :-(Subroto Mukerjihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02355694382919429342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1510342312913842839.post-87460325548391582862011-06-29T06:48:45.206-07:002011-06-29T06:48:45.206-07:00I followed your link from DPReview and I'm gla...I followed your link from DPReview and I'm glad I did, as it is just what I have been looking for over the last few days. The 1.8G is 100% increase over the D, and I wanted to know whether it was worth it. I'm still undecided, but this helps a lot. The most important difference to me is the color rendition and sharpness wide open. Where the 50 D was just a little off at f1.8, the 50 G works great for me. The 50 D color was just a little "gray" in my eyes and required a bit more post processing to correct.Kelly Jonesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1510342312913842839.post-72415266310106211412011-06-28T12:30:50.461-07:002011-06-28T12:30:50.461-07:00I'm Glad you've found this comparison help...I'm Glad you've found this comparison helpful.Robert Disneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09914530059489435698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1510342312913842839.post-78584851839499353922011-06-28T10:25:03.713-07:002011-06-28T10:25:03.713-07:00This is very helpful Rob.
