Just a few comments on some recent photos in today's entry.
Old Hardware
Today's photo was taken a few weeks ago, but I didn't get around to tweaking it until yesterday, during one of the short periods of downtime that I had from packing and trip preparation. The photo is of the motherboard of a cassette player, the board was damaged by a leaky battery, see the bottom left corner of the board. In the first photo you can see some discolouration. You can see the damage that was done, to a greater degree, in the second photo. Some of the components are covered in battery acid, and you can see what it did to those unlucky parts as a result.
It's Alive!
The ability to take photos like these would have been impossible to take without a macro lens. You could achieve similar results with heavy cropping or stacking close focus filers, but I doubt the quality would be a good. A true macro lens also gives you more control over depth of field, verses cropping, which is nice.
