The leaves have been falling off the trees in large numbers since late August, but in the last few weeks they colours have started to turn here in the Greater Vancouver area. One reason I love the fall is the coming of migratory birds, and the increase of predatory birds on the coast along with them. Today I saw numerous Coopers Hawks, a Peregrine Falcon, a few Norther Harriers and a Bald Eagle. Those predators kept the large group of Sandpipers (Dowitchers, and Greater Yellowlegs for the most part) on the move most of the afternoon, although they always went back to the same spot after any given attack ended. It was a cool, breezy afternoon on the shoreline, but it was good for birding, and I got a few nice shots.
