After the snow and sub-zero temperatures of the past week (-13ºC on Tuesday night), it was nice to see the sun come out briefly this afternoon. The warmer temperatures and improved lighting conditions promoted an outing this afternoon. I came across a number of owls and woodpeckers during the afternoon. The Barred Owl, photographed above, seemed restless, most likely due to hunger and the presence of people in the area. The cold weather of the past week must have taken its toll though, as it would have kept the Barred Owl's pray in sheltered areas for the most part.
