Trains and railways are great subjects for images, because they are an important part of the recent past, and still speak to the present. Not only that, but the nature of the railway lines themselves give photographers some great elements to work with, like leading lines. While a straight stretch of railway line isn't all that interesting, a curve in the line can be. First of all, curves are a great places to work with leading lines, which can draw the viewer through the foreground off into the distance. Curves are also great places to capture trains, since you will be able to see the train stretching out behind the engine.
