Marsh Wren (Photo Of The Day May 16)

As the spring drags on, Marsh Wrens become more territorial, primarily defending their nesting grounds against other Wrens. Defending a nests require the male Wrens to become aggressive, as they assert their control over the area around them. As a result territorial calls are more common than earlier in the season and you can often see the birds coming to higher bushes near the edge of their territories.  This change is evident by the fact that this Marsh Wren was not overly concerned by my presence, at least not as much as it would have been back in early to mid April.
