In A Web

Earlier this week I visited the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack BC, a small protected area along the Vedder River.  Visitors during the month of March, April and May are in for a treat, as Great Blue Herons are nesting. The colony of Herons gathers in a group of trees, and can be seen from the dike on the north side, as well as a blind within the reserve. I counted at least 30 Herons on the nests during my visit on Monday. I suspect there could be even more, since there were a number of empty nests. The young Herons usually appear sometime in early April and will finally leave the nest in May or early July. Today's image was taken from the blind, behind the nests. The best position to get images from is the northern dike, as there are many branches in the way from the south east side, where the blind is located.
