This past Tuesday afternoon a flock of Lesser Snow Geese filled the fields near the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. This group of at least 5000 birds likely came up from the Skagit Valley in Washington State, where several flocks winter, as the first step towards a long journey north to Alaska and Siberia.
The Geese were drinking water from the wheel wells along the edge of the field, around 6 metres (21ft) away.
After watching the Geese for nearly an hour a Juvinale Bald Eagle flew over and the flock took flight.
