Wood Duck Gosling |
After a busy week it was nice to get out and do some bird photography today! Bird sightings at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary included several families of Wood Ducks, Cedar Waxwings, the Sandhill Crane family, along with the usual assortment of Sparrows, Chickadees, Robins, Mallards and Canada Geese. It was actually a rather quiet morning at the sanctuary, and very few people arrived until after 11AM. For the first two hours out this morning the ponds were virtually empty, aside from the Wood Duck families, and the odd Mallard. Once people started showing up with bird seed activity increased.
While photographing a Wood Duck family, a juvenile Bald Eagle sat in a nearby tree watching the goslings hungrily. Thankfully the little family found a hiding place along the grassy islands of the sanctuary, and the Eagle went elsewhere to look for the next meal.
