Chow Time (Hooded Merganser)
Another shot from this last Saturday, just like the one of the Northern Hawk Owl that I posted a few days ago. This Hooded Merganser was doing a little fishing, while I was spying on it from a bird blind. After watching the Merganser for a short time I saw it dive under the surface of the water and come back up with a little fish. I started taking shots as soon as I realized that the Merganser had caught something. The shooting conditions were not easy, as it was a dark, rainy afternoon and I was shooting at a shutter speed of 1/250s at ISO3200. That is not ideal for the D300, Nikon AF-S 300mm F4D IF-ED combo with TC14E attached, when you are trying to capture action shots!
